If you put strategy on top of your BAU, both will end up suffering.
You know that a strategy must be clear and concise and shouldn’t live only in the CEO’s head.
But some less evident problems can send your strategy down the drain.
Your strategy is at risk if:
[1] It is BAU plus new projects and tasks.
Your employees can’t keep up with their regular duties and take on new projects simultaneously.
[2] It is BAU against new projects.
Some new projects may conflict with the regular duties. But many leaders don’t notice this and demand that both be carried out.
[3] It is today’s profits plus new profits.
You can’t get new results without changing old practices. And you can’t change old practices without sacrificing some of your income.
Strategy isn’t only about creating but also about destroying.
It’s not only about adding; it’s also about subtracting.
