Having what you want isn’t enough. Want what you have

Entrepreneurs and CEOs need life strategies to thrive. Friday is the time to reflect.

Chasing rainbows can only take you so far.

Epicurus argued that happiness is the absence of misery.

Misery = What we want to have – what we have.

When the gap isn’t too large, and we know how to narrow it, it becomes motivation.

Motivation is a healthy kind of misery.

When the gap is too wide, it creates dissatisfaction and frustration.

But there are always two ways to close the gap:

  1. Achieve more
  2. Desire less by appreciating what we have

As counterintuitive as it may seem, both approaches are equally valid.

We far too often underrate what we already have.

Contemplation questions:

– What are your personal strategic goals?

– Do you really want to achieve them? Are they indeed your deep, inner goals?

– Are there underappreciated things in your life?

Answer these questions before writing your New Year’s resolutions and life strategy.
